The team of the Chair of New Green Transition at the Universitat Jaume I has funded a workshop on environment and healthy lifestyle at the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night (MEDNIGHT). The Workshop took place at the University on the 30th September.

Participants were able to observe what aspects of their daily lives affect the air they breathe, the effect of diet on the cardiovascular system, as well as the benefits of exercise on physical and mental health.

In total, 4 different demonstrations were conducted, two of them for air pollution, as both indoor and outdoor sources were analyzed.

For example, for the demonstration of outdoor air pollution sources, a toy car with a dust reservoir (equivalent to a car exhaust pipe) and an atmospheric particulate meter were available. Students were instructed to observe what happened on the particulate meter when they pressed the reservoir, and to check the differences between a clean and a polluted filter. In addition, they were given a poster showing the most common sources of pollution, their effects on health, and possible solutions.

Finally, the participants were asked once again to collaborate in questions related to the observations: initiatives to improve air quality, sorting by fat composition of healthier and less healthy foods, and answering true/false questions about exercise and health.
