Spain ranks seventh in the European energy sector. This is according to the consultancy firm Oliver Wyman with its new Green Transition Index, a system with which they have measured the evolution in terms of energy transition of 29 territories in our continent. In each case, the use of transition technologies in each country, the respect of transport for the environment, the sustainability of buildings and how waste is managed, among others, have also been studied.

 

Although the Spanish energy sector has achieved seventh place and fifth place in the economy, the position in the rest of the categories has caused Spain to fall to 14th place out of 29. For this reason, the consultancy states that the country still has “a long way to go to achieve total sustainability”. 

 

Spain’s greenhouse gas reduction between 2015 and 2020 by 21%, as well as a more efficient use of energy with a reduction of 11% between the same period, stand out.
