The Interuniversity Chair of New Green Transition has received interesting nominations for the awards convened through the Universitat Jaume I, the Video Game Development Awards for the Ecological Transition aimed at undergraduate or master’s students of the 5 Valencian public universities in the 2020- 2021. The call for the Chair, which has the collaboration of the Living Lab Planet Debug of the UJI, allows individual or group participation and aims to promote awareness and social action in the field of climate change . Prizes are endowed with 500, 300 and 200 euros. Nominations can be submitted through the UJI’s electronic office before April 30, 2021.
Among the proposals presented are approaches inspired by futuristic visions such as that of an almost extinct humanity, whose inhabitants travel to the past to introduce changes that allow the survival of the species, or others inspired by real university research, with the The aim is to make players aware of the consequences of pollution, and especially of the consequences that the actions of specific individuals may have on history. Likewise, some video game proposals raise dynamics of intergenerational dialogue on climate change, or an approach to the problem of ecological transition from perspectives such as the circular economy.
It should be remembered that the main objective of the Chair is to develop research, teaching and dissemination activities on public strategies and policies on fair ecological transition and the fight against climate change within the framework of sustainable habitat. As for the call, the starting point is the conviction that video games have great potential as a tool that recreates a collaborative world where success benefits from the development of skills, naturally creating the need for learning by the player, fostering changes in behavior and the generation of citizen awareness in the face of the challenges of the green transition. In this sense, the competition aims to promote the development of video games that aim to promote knowledge of the issues associated with the green transition and the fight against climate change in a framework of sustainability, as well as promoting awareness and behavior change of citizenship in the framework of the construction of a sustainable habitat.
Promoted by the Second Vice-Presidency and the Department of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Chair has the participation of the 5 Valencian public universities.
